Mom guilt has a way of following us through every season of motherhood. Whether we're raising toddlers, school-aged children, teenagers, or looking back as grandmothers, many of us quietly wonder if we've done enough, been enough, or somehow fallen short.
In Part 1 of this two-part conversation, Melissa and Bethany explore what mom guilt really is, why it seems so deeply woven into motherhood, and the many places it comes from. Together, they discuss the difference between healthy regret and constant self-condemnation, the expectations society places on mothers, the messages we inherit from previous generations, and how social media has changed the experience of raising children.
They also reflect on how motherhood has changed over time—from raising children within a close-knit community to parenting in a more transient society, where many mothers have traded community for comparison.
This episode isn't about finding quick answers. It's about understanding the weight so many mothers carry and recognizing that perhaps some of it was never ours to bear.
Join us next week for Part 2 as we continue the conversation through the teenage years, adulthood, and grandmotherhood, exploring what children truly need from us, what we can learn from guilt, the burdens that were never ours to carry, and the grace that can be found across generations.
